Samsung Ativ Tab Windows RT Tablet: Specs, price and reviews

After announcing Ativ PC and Ativ PC Pro transforming Windows 8 tablets of Smart series, Samsung unveils its Windows RT debut named Ativ Tab - a tablet with 16M-color 10.1" PLS LCD HD display, ARM processor, dual camera, embedded with many sensors and software applications.

With release of Windows 8 from Microsoft many on based products have already been announced during worldwide events like IFA 2012. Samsung also showcased its Ativ Tab operating with power of this upcoming Windows RT. Though most of the specifications are available for the devices yet the price for the product is still disclosed from Samsung end.

The devices running Windows RT version will not be able to access traditional desktop applications even though they designed for Windows 8 platform but Samsung Smart Ativ will be accessing all Modern UI/Windows 8-style and UI/Metro interface apps. and it will be accessing all Windows 8 based technologies such as touch-screen, Windows 8 charms and Metro interfaces.

This Samsung Tablet features an excellent 16M-color 10.1" PLS LCD HD capacitive touch screen 1366x768 pixels resolution, 400-nits of brightness display. The tablet weighs around 570gms and measures to 265.8 x 168.1 x 8.9 mm. The tablet also sports dual cameras – One autofocus camera with 5MP LED Flash with 720p video recording and other front facing camera with 1.9MP for snap shooting.

The RT machine is designed to run on a dual-core Krait CPU running at 1.54GHz ARM Processor, Adreno 305 GPU and Snapdragon S4 Plus APQ8090a chipset coupled to 2GB of RAM and 32/64GB of inbuilt storage with a microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 64 GB.

Multiple connectivity options such as Wi-Fi Direct, Dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Channel Bonding for flawless internet accessing with GPS support for tracking and Bluetooth 4.0 for wireless connectivity and USB 2.0 Host, microHDMI for video streaming to large digital display also supported. The machine comes embedded with a high power 8,200mAh Li-ion battery sufficient for providing proper backup.

In addition, multiple software applications like Microsoft Office package and sensors like Gyro, accelerometer for automatic UI rotation, ambient light sensor and support for DivX/XivD, connectos USB host Proprietary 13-pin connector for keyboard dock, capacitive stylus (optional) TV-out (adapter required) also come with device.

Pricing and availability

Samsung set the price of Ativ Tab Windows RT Tablet at US$890 and device is up for pre-order.
